War Memorial

War Memorial

A central element of the city, created during the Fascist period, the War Memorial in Piazzale della Vittoria, designed by Cesare Bazzani, is one of the modern visual symbols of the city.
Its white stateliness invites us to discover it by moving our gaze along the polished Doric column, which is 32 meters high, up to the three bronze statues of Victory, and between the two altars, where the compact silhouette of a Homeric hero emerges. A soldier is caught in the heat of battle and in the catharsis of death, or coming back to domestic quiet, when the goddess sheathes her sword and the child clings to his mother. The work is interwoven with the spirit of sacrifice and the expression of the cycle of life and death.
