Church of San Biagio

Church of San Biagio

It is definitely worth a visit Piazzetta San Biagio (from Via Maroncelli we take Via Episcopo Vecchio) and the homonymous church. The present building is modern because it was erected after the war on the foundations of the ancient Church of San Biagio in San Gerolamo, destroyed in a bombing in 1944.
Inside the Church there are three works of art that survived the destruction: the "Triptych" by Marco Palmezzano with the Madonna on the Throne and Saints, the famous "Immaculate Conception", a canvas that Guido Reni probably painted in 1627 and, on the steps leading to the presbytery, the fifteenth-century white marble stoup with a small frog in the center. Unfortunately, the famous frescoes in the dome of the Feo Chapel, painted by both Melozzo da Forlì and Palmezzano, have been lost. Adjacent to the church of San Biagio, the monastery of the Clarisse, seriously damaged by the bombings of 1944, has kept its 15th century structure.
