Parish of San Martino in Strada

Parish of San Martino in Strada

The parish church of San Martino in Strada, dedicated to St. Martin of Tours, a fourth-century Christian bishop, has a very ancient origin: the first documentary records date back to 962.
The ancient church, in Lombard style with a basilica plan, has been remodeled several times over time.
Inside, one can still admire a painting dedicated to the Sacred History, which is very scenic, and a fresco of an ancient medieval Madonna, holding the baby Jesus in her arms.
The Madonna is depicted here in the background with small stars around her halo, has her head gently bent toward the baby Jesus, who wears a yellow robe as he feeds and looks at the viewer. On her arm dangles, as per the widespread iconography, a coral necklace, a symbol of blood and Passio Christi.
